As the year winds down, you might be like us, thinking about how to get a fresh start in 2020. If addressing skin concerns are on your list we’d love to help you meet your goals! In our top 5 list we focus on overall health that will allow your skin to function at its best, so in 2020, remember that when you take care of your body, you’re also taking care of your skin!!
1.You are what you Eat!
You may have heard this before, but it’s as true as ever! Here at Face of Jules we truly believe skin health is an honest representation of what’s going on internally. So that being said, we recommend you Eat Clean!
Do your best to buy local fresh organic produce when possible. Unfortunately the soil our produce is grown in is not what it used to be, and that means our food no longer provides the same amount of nutrients our bodies need. Eating local and organic ensures that you’re getting the bulk amount of minerals, antioxidants and enzymes your body and skin need to function at their best.
No plastic! Did you ever think that going green could also help your skin?? Drinking water or other beverages out of plastic bottles can be very harmful to you body and what’s more it can cause hormonal disruptions which can lead to breakouts or other skin concerns. So let’s ditch plastic bottles in 2020! We encourage our clients to drink out of glass bottles or buy a BPA free tumblr for on-the-go drinks. And as we all can agree, avoiding plastic is also great for the environment, another win-win!
We understand all of these suggestions cost money, but it is true that health is wealth and in order for your skin to glow, you must supply your system with the right tools to function optimally! Consider investing in your health & wealth in 2020!
2. Consider Doing a Cleanse
We hate to be the bearers of bad news, but if you’ve been “living your best life” this holiday season it might start to show. Doing a bowel cleanse can be a sure way to clean out your system and get things moving in the right direction (aka: south for the winter!) Jules swears by Dr. Shultz formula 1 and formula 2 cleanse and does it faithfully throughout the year, or after traveling.
Aesthetician Pro Tip: commit to going vegan for the 10 days during the cleanse. Following the cleanse be sure to repopulate your gut with healthy flora – to do this we recommended taking probiotics.
3. Vitamin A is your new Bestie
No matter what stage of life you’re in, consider investing in good a retinol (vitamin A) to incorporate into your evening skin care routine, and trust us, your future skin will thank you! Retinols help fight acne, reduce wrinkles, stimulate collagen, and promote cellular turnover! Remember while using retinols it is very important to wear sunscreen (though you should be anyway) because retinoids increase the skin’s sensitivity to sunlight.
Aesthetician Pro Tip: Exfoliate before using your retinol, this allows for the deepest penetration of product into the skin! Also it is very important to remember to start slowly when beginning to use a retinol. Begin with 1-2 times per week and move up to nightly as your skin adjusts (using too much too soon will cause dry, flakey, sensitive skin).
4. Get Your Beauty Sleep!
Get the skin of your dreams while you sleep! This is certainly a topic that is not addressed enough and is such a crucial step in aging gracefully and keeping the GLOW we all want. In this day and age, life is fast paced and stressful, but allowing your body to rest and recover in a must for good skin health. Here’s the grim reality, when you’re sleep-deprived, your body creates more of the stress hormone cortisol. Elevated levels of cortisol can lead to increased stress and inflammation in the body, and your skin will suffer the consequences. The good news is that when you do get enough sleep, the body releases human growth hormone, a necessary ingredient for collagen production—the protein that gives people shiny hair, strong nails, and glowing skin. Our bodies our built to provide thrive and function well when we treat them as we should! I think we can all agree we would mind getting more beauty sleep in the new year and amazing skin while we do so!
Before you hit the pillow, make sure you have thoroughly removed makeup and cleansed! We recommend double cleansing at night to guarantee you have successfully removed all makeup and properly cleaned the skin.
Aesthetician Pro Tip: Never sleep with makeup on & Makeup-remover clothes do not count!
5. Get a Checkup!
Maybe you’ve tried it all – expensive products, diet changes, and everything under the sun and yet nothing seems to help. Don’t give up yet! You may be dealing with something that’s more than skin deep that may require a medical opinion. We recommend getting some blood work done as well as a hormone and allergy panel with you doctor to make sure your system is functioning as it should. You may be dealing with food allergies, or a hormonal imbalance. You may be closer than you think to finding a long term solution!
We hope these 5 steps help guide you in the right direction for the new year and we wish you the all the best! Remember, our team is always here to help with any questions or concerns you may have so please do not hesitate to reach out to us.
Wishing you Happy & Healthy Holidays!
